Care Assistant (Nights) - 34.5 hours per week, can include weekends

As a Care Assistant you will show warmth and support to the residents, helping to promote independence and dignity and positively enhancing the lives of individuals in your care. Your main responsibilities will be to provide a high level of care to our residents ensuring their wellbeing, giving personal care, maintaining a high level of hygiene, accurately recording observations in accordance with the resident’s conditions, informing the Senior Nurse on duty of any changes and responding accordingly, serving meals and assisting our residents as necessary.

Job Duties

  • To assist residents with those activities which they would usually perform or have in the past performed themselves but cannot now without assistance. The optimum level of independence should be encouraged and supported whilst maintaining the dignity and self-esteem of the residents.
  • Provide care as laid down in the care plans and under the direction of the Manager.
  • Contribute to the updating, development and review of care plans, ensuring involvement of residents / representatives at all times.
  • Carry out your duties as key worker to nominated residents under the management and supervision of your Line Manager.
  • Participate in social and therapeutic activities with residents both inside and outside the home. Travel with and supervise residents on activities and events outside the home.
  • Develop positive, helpful and caring relationships with residents and their families as required.
  • Report to your Line Manager any changes or deterioration you observe in the health and general condition of residents, any personal or emotional problems that you become aware of and any matter which has or could potentially have a bearing on the overall well-being of the residents.
  • Make and change beds, mattresses and bed linen.
  • Carry out regular checks on residents throughout the day / night, working as a team with the Senior Care Assistants and Clinical Care Coordinators where applicable.
  • To answer promptly to all nurse alarm calls, assessing each situation and dealing with any resident who is seeking help. In cases of emergency to summon a Senior Care Assistant or Clinical Care Coordinator and if necessary to call the emergency GP and/or summon an ambulance.
  • To assist residents who need help or reassurance, providing drinks or refreshments where required.
  • To assist with palliative care for residents who are terminally ill.
  • Be aware of and comply with Health and Safety and Infection Control regulations and report any actual or potential hazards to your Line Manager.

Ideally you will have some experience in the Healthcare sector, however we would also be interested to hear from applicants who have no prior experience, but have a caring nature and are looking to pursue a career in the Healthcare sector.
